What is it you are feeling vulnerable about?

When You Tripped Up

For Liesel it was a series of trip-ups that she kept doing over and over again in every relationship.

She would start to date someone and then morph into who she thought he wanted her to be. From becoming a sports fanatic, to a surfer girl, to a grunge rocker etc.

All of this time she never really knew who she was. Even the music she was into and the clothes she wore were dictated by who she was dating.

It wasn’t until she had a really challenging, bottom out relationship that she got real about figuring out who she was and why she continued to be in dysfunctional relationships that things changed.

The “DUH” moment that changed your partnerships forever

Liesel had this story she was sure she had proven time and time again that when she put on some weight her husband was less attracted to her and when she lost weight he was more attracted to her.

This caused her to be super careful about her diet and fitness and put tons of energy into this.

When she said this to her husband, he was like, what are you talking about? He had no awareness of this 10 – 12 pound weight range she was obsessed about.

He said, “I’m always more attracted to you when you feel radiant and confident and I’m less attracted to you when you’re insecure and needy.”

She came to the realization that it was not her weight but her perception of herself and how she was carrying herself and how she felt about herself that impacted her attraction to her.

This was a massive shift for her.

Proudest moment in partnership

The opening to the vulnerability of marrying her husband. She knew he was not going to let her hide or be less than her fullest self.

It has led to a vast wonderland of adventure. And it’s hard. And it’s scary. And it hurts. And it’s beautiful and has led her to levels of herself that she couldn’t access by herself.

What is the best partnership / relationship advice you have ever received?

The best gift that you can give your children is a happy marriage.

If your marriage loses the priority then the family is going to fall apart. And that’s the biggest suffering for the child.

The Payoff of Partnership

As a little girl, Liesel used to listen to love songs and dream that they were written for her.

Then on her third date with her husband Craig, he wrote her a song. And he encouraged her to connect with her own love of music. Now she writes her own songs, sings and performs with him.

This would never have happened without his encouragement and drawing out of the musician and songwriter that was inside of her.
